We recently had the opportunity to talk with triple threat Asia Monet. Since the rising star has seen success in dance, music and acting, we figured we would chat with her about each one. First, we discussed dance, then music, now we’re diving into her acting career.

Asia has essentially grown up in front of the cameras. America first met Asia when she was just six-years-old as she took part in “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition” which aired on Lifetime and starred Abby Lee from the Abby Lee Dance Company. After winning the competition, Asia joined the “Dance Moms” team during season three. While on the show, Asia won every competition solo she performed for nine weeks. When her stint on “Dance Moms” came to a close, Lifetime granted Asia her own show “Raising Asia” which followed the rising star and her family as they pushed to pursue her dreams.

In the years since Asia has still worked diligently and has landed several roles that weren’t specifically focused on dance.

Her first role in a movie was in 2015’s “Sister Code” were she appeared as Lexi. In the film, three foster sisters come together after their mother dies. The film starred Amber Rose—who Asia plays the young version of—Eva Marcille and Drew Sidora.

“Sister Code was in theaters, and I loved being a part of that project. It was my first movie and I think I would love to continue going out for movie roles,” said Asia.

Earlier this year, she appeared as Sydney Simpson in the smash hit TV series “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”

“This was an experience that was so amazing and I felt so blessed about being a part of such an incredible project. It really was a highlight for me to be able to work with such an insanely cast. I just knew this series was going to take home tons of Emmy’s,” said Asia.

The show retold the story of the 1995 O.J. Simpson trial that alleged O.J. had murdered his wife and a friend of hers. Simpson was later acquitted.

“The People v. O.J.” stared “American Horror Story” actress Sarah Paulson, John Travolta and Cuba Gooding Jr.

In 2016 Asia also scored a role on “Grey Anatomy.” She played Jasmine. Grey’s dives into the world of surgeons and has been rolling strong since 2005. The show has a massive fan base.

“I always loved Grey’s Anatomy, so when I booked the role I was super excited. I mean crazy excited! This was another great experience in my acting career. I really like the more serious roles,” said Asia about her time on “Grey’s.”

All of these roles have dealt with quite serious topics, so we wondered if that was the road Asia was interested in further pursuing.

“I tend to book more roles in drama that are more serious and mature. It’s funny to me because I’m a really happy person, but I seem to gravitate to more of the dramatic roles. I think I like the stillness and being able to play someone that is completely opposite of myself in real life, but that may change as I grow as an actress,” said Asia.

No other projects are listed as in the works on IMBd for Asia, but we will certainly be seeing her soon.

“I’m so excited for what’s ahead. I’ve had a pretty busy schedule for a while now while working and training for several exciting projects dealing with my music, dance and acting,” she shared. If you follow me on all of my social media handles, you will see something really cool I’m doing in December that I’m super excited about!”

Be sure to follow Asia on Twitter, Instagram and check out her YouTube Channel.
Every Sunday she does a Question and Answer session on her YouTube, so tune into that for the latest.
